If you have followed the Healthy Kids Challenge in October, you know I believe that the best gifts children could be given are a healthy life and ethical mindset. Respecting themselves, others and the planet must be fully part of their education. Every parent and educator should focus on giving them the tools to become healthy and happy adults, playing a positive role in society and be part of a generation who will promote sustainability.
The road to this goal is long, but fortunately there is a growing number of positive and innovative initiatives going in that direction. Among them, an amazing project that just set the bar very high, The Arbor School Dubai.
Educating children with conscience, that’s the purpose of this new school, opening in Al Furjan in September 2018. In addition to being taught the National Curriculum for England, the children will be prepared to take on nowadays societal and environmental challenges. The Curriculum will be enriched with a focus on eco-literacy, sustainability and environmental justice, with the aim of developing their awareness and sense of responsibilities, reflected in every lesson and project.
All students will be taught the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, including gender equality, responsible consumption, affordable and clean energy, climate action, good health and well-being, etc., through experiential and project based learning.
The focus is also on ensuring students’ well-being and personal growth with a compassionate, personalized and inclusive approach to teaching: provision of support for all student, goals planning and monitoring, Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and committed partnership with parents to help children deal with their difficulties and achieve their full potential. Students will also have the opportunity to develop personal skills, team spirit and sense of effort with an extensive co-curricular program including Creativity, Service, Community and Sports.
The Arbor School provides a 30,000 m2 campus area containing two climate controlled, indoor atria, a biodome, specialized science laboratories, art rooms, auditorium, libraries, canteen areas, film photography rooms, vocational workshops, FIFA compliant soccer pitch, multi-purpose hall for indoor sports, outdoor courts and a swimming pool.
No doubt that the students will benefit from a privileged environment and education. The project is the perfect answer to nowadays and tomorrow’s challenges and I hope it will inspire many more positive initiatives.
